On 12th June 1985, Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust bought Roundton Hill. Managing the hill, once the site of an Iron Age fort, and surrounding land as a nature reserve would not only protect the important site, with its geological and industrial landscape features turned habitats, but it would also enable this much-loved landmark to be enjoyed by the local community.
In the years that followed, Roundton Hill was designated a National Nature Reserve (NNR) and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for its incredible wildlife value.
Join us 40 years later to the day as we mark this special milestone with a scenic stroll through the reserve’s meadows and other varied habitats, followed by a walk up to the hill’s summit.
Then, weather dependent, we will enjoy the stunning views for a little longer with a picnic at the top.
Led by Conservation Officer Tammy Stretton, who's been at the Trust for more than 20 years, the walk will be the perfect way to find out about one of the Trust’s oldest nature reserves, how it's cared for, and its fantastic flora and fauna, from bats to bryophytes (mosses and liverworts), birds to butterflies.
