Dragonflies of Montgomeryshire

Find out which species of Odonata (dragonflies & damselflies) call Montgomeryshire home

Montgomeryshire has 26 species of dragonflies and damselflies and many of them can be seen on our nature reserves. Another great place to enjoy these winged jewels is the Montgomery Canal, designated as Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to it's aquatic plants which, like the dragonflies, benefit from the exceptionally clean water. Also look out for the uncommon Common Clubtail dragonfly, which can be found in the lower Montgomeryshire reaches of the Rivers Severn & Vyrnwy.
