Friends of Severn Farm Pond
Interested in joining the Friends of Severn Farm Pond volunteer group and helping care for this tiny urban oasis?
About the Friends of Severn Farm Pond
New volunteers are always very welcome to join the Friends of Severn Farm Pond. The group looks after Severn Farm Pond in Welshpool, the Trust’s smallest reserve, enhancing the urban oasis for wildlife and the local community, while also promoting their own wellbeing. Sessions are relaxed and just as much about socialising, connecting with nature and building skills and confidence as tending to the reserve.
When does the group meet?
Friends of Severn Farm Pond meet Fridays 10am-3pm, at Severn Farm Pond.
What does the group do?
What the volunteers get up to varies according to the weather and season, but a few of the activities include:
- Site maintenance, such as litter picking and upkeep of infrastructure
- Habitat creation, including coppicing willows and building nest boxes, bat boxes and bug hotels
- Wildlife monitoring, by carrying out surveys of bird and insect life or recording wildlife on the site more generally
- Community garden: Growing fruit, vegetables and flowers, and maintaining the space
-
Social Enterprise: Raising funds for the group, selling items in the MWT shop, and promoting activities.
The group also organise regular visits to other nature reserves, and have opportunities for training and self development.
