About the event
Join Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust, and the Nature Friendly Farming Network farm liaison team for a workshop on using biochar to encourage soil health, fertility and water purity, followed by a guided tour of Caebardd Farm.
Farmer, Mick Jones, has developed a commercial scale biochar production unit which has unlocked new opportunities for widespread commercial suitability resulting in replacing chemical fertiliser use on his farm.
The farm has a completely circular system which has now been replicated elsewhere; timber grown on the farm is chipped, passed through the biochar plant, and spread on the fields to improve soil health, yield, and improve water quality.
Mixed into bedding, as well as out on the field, biochar improves animal welfare, specifically foot health.
The workshop will be followed by a hog roast.
This event is taking place as part of the Grassland Communities project, a partnership between Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust and Nature Friendly Farming Network. It is funded by the Nature Networks Fund, which is a Welsh Government fund developed in partnership with Natural Resources Wales administered by the Trustees of the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) on behalf of Welsh Government.
