The Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust’s Severn Farm Pond Nature Reserve is within walking distance of the centre of Welshpool and is a local haven for people and wildlife. This accessible ‘urban oasis’ hosts a variety of events and activities for the public throughout the year, visitors to the site will be able to enjoy some inspiring recycled art works, a wildlife demonstration garden, seating and shelters. The reserve is looked after by a dedicated group of volunteers who continue to work closely with the Trust to keep the reserve healthy, safe and inviting for all who visit.

Matt Clark – Volunteer Reserve Warden and Chairman of the Friends of Severn Farm Pond volunteer group stated:-

“We are very proud to have been awarded this flag for the 3rd year running. The ‘Friends’ continue to work extremely hard each week to keep this local green space accessible and safe for all to enjoy. We hope that more people will come and visit this reserve and if willing, come and join our very sociable ‘Friends Of Severn Farm Pond’ group of volunteers that meets to undertake a variety of reserve maintenance tasks at the site on Wednesdays 10am til 1pm.”

The Green Flag Award program is delivered in Wales by environmental charity, Keep Wales Tidy, with support from Welsh Government. It is judged by green space experts, who volunteer their time to visit applicant sites and assess them against eight strict criteria, including horticultural standards, cleanliness, environmental management and community involvement.

Lucy Prisk, Green Flag Coordinator at Keep Wales Tidy said:

“We’re delighted to be celebrating another record-breaking year for the Green Flag Awards in Wales. All the flags flying at community sites are a testament to the dedication and enthusiasm of local volunteers who work tirelessly to raise the standard of our green spaces.

“I’d encourage everyone to get outdoors this summer and enjoy the fantastic facilities we have on our doorstep.”
