Do you love wildlife and enjoy helping people discover how they can make a difference for nature?
Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust is looking for a Nature Engagement Officer to support our work as part of Making Friends with Wildlife, an exciting project in partnership with Age Cymru helping older people connect with nature and take practical action to support wildlife.
We want to help more people discover the wildlife on their doorstep, make their gardens more wildlife-friendly and understand how small actions can make a real difference.
About the role
This is a fixed term contract until 30th September 2029, with a contract extension if funding is secured.
Working four days a week remotely with some travel across Montgomeryshire and occasional visits to the Trust’s office near Newtown, you will support Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust’s contribution to the project, with a particular focus on nature engagement, wildlife-friendly gardening, ecological skills and biodiversity monitoring.
You will help develop and deliver practical training and resources, organise online and f2f workshops and community activities, and work with colleagues and project partners to encourage people to take positive action for wildlife.
You will also help record the project’s activities and biodiversity outcomes, contribute to monitoring and evaluation, and share stories and learning to inspire others to get involved.
About you
We are looking for someone who has a good understanding of wildlife and nature conservation and enjoys sharing that knowledge with others.
You will be organised, enthusiastic and comfortable working both independently and alongside colleagues and partner organisations. You will be able to communicate clearly with different audiences and understand the importance of helping older people feel confident.
Experience in wildlife gardening, environmental education, community engagement or biodiversity monitoring would be an advantage.
Most importantly, you will share our passion for helping more people care about and take action for wildlife.
