Access

The floodplain meadows are flat but the ground can be uneven in places and vegetation height is high in summer. The site is prone to flooding and some areas can be muddy.

There is a circular route around this reserve, but the river area is accessed using stiles, and the paths go through some scrub and are uneven and muddy at times.

If you’d like more access information for this reserve, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

About the reserve

There's no point in working against such a strong force as the River Severn, so the Trust is working with the river to create a harmonious balance of habitat erosion and creation. In addition to meadows, areas of river shingle provide places for invertebrates to thrive and wading birds can feed and breed in safety. Along the river margins plants grow which attract dragonflies and damselflies, whilst providing cover for birds and otters.

Whilst this reserve is worth a visit at any time of the year, early summer can be the most rewarding, with flower-rich meadows in full bloom and birds breeding in every available space.
