Senedd Election 2026 Nature Hustings
About the event
Members of the Senedd, the Welsh Parliament, decide on the policies that shape land use in our country. Their choices have a direct impact on the health of our rivers, soils and skies. The future of all the wonderful wildlife we love – from otters to ospreys and beavers to butterflies – is in their hands.
Welsh wildlife decreased on average by 20% between 1994 and 2023. Around 1 in 6 species are at risk of extinction, including once common wildlife like Curlew, Hazel Dormouse and Hedgehog. Senedd Members have the power to turn this around and help nature thrive again.
This is your chance to meet the candidates and hear their parties’ plans for the natural world during the next Senedd term, from 2026-2030.
Candidates from seven parties and three independents are expected at the hustings, and will lay out their parties’ plans for the natural world during the next Senedd term, which will run from 2026 to 2030.
The event’s Chair, Colin Preston, is former CEO of Shropshire Wildlife Trust 1991-2020 and interim CEO for Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust and South and West Wales Wildlife Trust, who earned his MBE for services to nature conservation in The Marches.
Members of the public are warmly invited to this free event. No booking is required (although spaces can be reserved by those travelling long distances) but room capacity is limited to 100 so early arrival is recommended.
The hustings will also be live-streamed. Joining link will be posted on this page so please check back closer to the time.
