Ty Brith

A pocket full of flowers

Map of Ty Brith Nature Reserve

This is how a meadow should be: lots of different grasses, wildflowers, insects, butterflies and thick, natural hedgerows. All this cover provides food and protection for small mammals such as field mice and shrews and shelter for ground nesting birds like the skylark and meadow pipit.

This small site (5.7ha/14 acre) of four fields is probably the largest group of unimproved hay meadows in Montgomeryshire and in recognition of this has been notified as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

Directions to the reserve: Ty Brith meadows are found at grid reference SJ244178 about 2 miles west of Four Crosses. From Welshpool, take the A483 north. At Four Crosses turn left along the B4393 signposted to Llansantfraid. Take the first left towards Deytheur. The reserve is approximately 1.5 miles on the left. Park on the roadside.
