Llyn Mawr

Boggy heaven

Map of Llyn Mawr Nature Reserve

If you like your wildlife wet, this is the place to be - and there’s 12 hectares of it! Water-loving birds and aquatic plants do well at this Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) because of a plentiful supply of food delivered to the lake by rain, air and the surrounding nutrient rich moorland.

Directions to the reserve: Llyn Mawr is found at grid refernce SO009971, north of the A470, 2 miles north west of Caersws on the lane to Bwlch y Garreg. Keep going almost to the end of this lane. Park in the small car park in front of the bungalow on the left of the lane. The reserve entrance is 30m back down the lane.
