Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust Biodiversity Matters II
The Conservation Strategy of the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust 2006-2016
Since 1982, the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust has been the leading voluntary organisation
promoting wildlife conservation in Montgomeryshire.
The Trust currently manages and cares for 19 Nature Reserves within the county, totalling some 550ha in
area. These reserves are a showcase of some of Montgomeryshire’s finest remnants of prime wildlife
habitat.
The VISION of the Trust is:
An environment rich in wildlife for everyone
The MISSION of the Trust is to:
Rebuild biodiversity and engage people with their environment
The AIM of the Trust is:
To be an active and influential wildlife champion
Our OBJECTIVES are:
1. To stand up for wildlife and the environment
2. To create and enhance wildlife havens
3. To inspire people about the natural world
4. To foster sustainable living
We see our unique ROLE as:
People taking action for local wildlife
Our BELIEFS are that:
1. Local wildlife conservation is our core business
2. Understanding and enjoying wildlife improves the quality of people’s lives
3. It is important for us to be inclusive and accessible
4. We will only achieve our mission by co-operating with others
5. Our collective voice and image is representative of our membership
In common with all other Wildlife Trusts, Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust is an independent charity limited by
guarantee. It is supported by approximately 1,400 members and currently employs 12 staff supported by
approximately 50 active volunteers.
The Trust operates in close partnership with the other 46 UK Wildlife Trusts, under the guidance of the umbrella organisation - the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts (RSWT). In recent years we have formed a strong allegiance with our 5 fellow Welsh Wildlife Trusts, a partnership known as Wildlife Trusts Wales (WTW). This important cohesive move has given us greater national strength in our collective work for biodiversity across Wales.. Wildlife Trusts Wales has a national Conservation Plan that sets out our collective conservation priorities for Wales over the next ten years.
Biodiversity Matters II has been written to complement the aspirations of the Wildlife Trust Wales national
Conservation Plan, and as such will be monitored against both local and national performance.
