Llyn Coed y Dinas

Man-made for Wildlife

Map of Llyn Coed y Dinas Nature Reserve

What do you do with a redundant gravel pit next to a busy by-pass? Turn it into a wildlife haven of course! And it’s working! The reserve is now enjoyed by everyone who comes to see the hundreds of water and field birds on and around the old quarry pit. In winter flocks of teal and wigeon join resident mallard, tufted duck and coot with occasional visits by whooper swans from the Arctic and goosanders.

Directions to the reserve: Llyn Coed y Dinas is found at grid reference SJ223052, clearly visible at the south end of the Welshpool by-pass. The entrance is 100m up the old main road to Welshpool town centre on the A490. Park in the reserve car park. Public transport is available. There is a bus stop next to the reserve.
