People & Wildlife

The People and Wildlife team are responsible for encouraging people to enjoy, understand and appreciate wildlife.

People are our most important and effective 'tools' for looking after wildlife and the environment. To help achieve this, we have made it our priority to involve and inspire people with the natural environment in an exciting and inclusive manner.

You're never too young (or too old!) to learn about the wonders of the natural world around you and what we can all do to ensure their protection. Discover & Learn!

Because we understand the importance of engaging the local community in our work we aim to:

  • Encourage people to enjoy, understand and appreciate wildlife
  • Demonstrate the importance of wildlife and our natural environment to quality of life, which in turn links across the public policy agenda, positively affecting issues as diverse as community cohesion and our economic performance
  • Help people to improve the sustainability of their everyday life choices and understand how they impact on biodiversity
  • Remove barriers to awareness raising and participation, whether they are linguistic, social, cultural, physical, economic or intellectual, including the development of targeted participation initiatives
  • Empower individuals and communities to become involved in activities, or make decisions, that benefit the environment
  • Maximise opportunities for our volunteers to develop their personal skills
  • Make the resource of our Nature Reserves and visitor centres available and welcoming to the widest possible audience

Throughout the year, the Trust organises a range of events to get you closer to our wonderful wildlife. To find out what's on, click here.
