REACHING OUT
The People and Wildlife team here at the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust are hoping to establish an outreach project, to bring positive and enriching nature/wildlife experiences directly to those people in the Montgomeryshire area who are less able to travel out and about, to access these themselves. We are hoping to spend the next few months undertaking a local pilot project which will:
- Establish if there is a need for this type of service
- Find out what the personal, social and health benefits to the recipients and wider community will be
- Explore what opportunities there may be to develop greater links with people and wildlife
We would like to develop opporunities to:
- Bring enriching wildlife and nature-based experiences directly to their homes/settings
- To provide inspiring sensory-based experiences/activities to enhance and develop learning or stimulate past memories (sometimes called reminiscences therapy)
- To foster mutually beneficial links with the wider community and associated organisations to develop volunteering and intergenerational opportunities
In developing this project we hope to reach those who may be:
- Living in a residential care setting
- Day Centres/Healthy Living Centres
- Mental Health Drop-in Centres
- Hospices, Hospitals, Trauma/Rehab Centres
- Special day/residential schools - particularly for those with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD)
- Housebound residents, be they adults/children and their carer
If you or your organisation would like to be more involved in this pilot project, then please contact Mel, Community Partnerships Officer via the office or by email: mel@montwt.co.uk
